Vista users may experience problems when adding words to PuzzLex lexicons. When you add a word the process seems to complete successfully but the word has not actually been added. This is caused by Vista protecting folders in the “Program Files” folder on the C: Drive.
To solve this problem you need to allow users to write to the Lexicons subfolder in the main PuzzLex folder, the full procedure is shown below. You can also view a short video showing you the process. View Video
Q2. When running version 6 I receive an "Illegal System DLL
Relocation" error message, saying that the system DLL user32.dll was
relocated in memory, because C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an
address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. Is this something you are
aware of?
This is a problem caused by a rogue security update released by
Microsoft. A fix is available which can be downloaded at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=74AD4188-3131-429C-8FCB-F7B3B0FD3D86&displaylang=en
Installing this Upgrade will fix the problem.
Q3. I have reinstalled Windows on my PC. PuzzLex has reverted back to
its evaluation version and the Registration Key you sent me when I
registered the program no longer works.
The Registration Code is unique to your PC and in particular the hard
disc in your PC. If you move PuzzLex to a new computer, reformat the hard
disc or reinstall Windows you will need to get a New Registration code. To
do this send the new PuzzLex ID to me explaining the situation and I will issue a new code.
There is no charge for this service.
Q4. I am a registered user of PuzzLex, I would like to have a copy of
the program on my laptop as well as my home PC. Do I have to pay for a new
registration code?
No. I am happy to supply a second registration code in this situation.
Send me the PuzzLex ID
from the laptop and I will send you a Registration Code.
Q5. Selecting Lexicons. I want to use all lexicons for searches,
however each time I start PuzzLex only Master.lex is selected. How do I tell
PuzzLex to always use all lexicons?
Open the Select Lexicons Dialog (F8). Open the Lexicons you want to be
selected by double clicking on them. Open the Lexicons Menu and select the
Make Default menu option.
Q6. How do I tell if PuzzLex is registered?.
Q7. What version of PuzzLex do I have?
On the Help menu select the About option. The About dialog shows the
version number. If you are using the evaluation version then the version
number will be preceded by the word Evaluation.
Q8. Is PuzzLex available for any other operating systems other than
Windows?
At the moment PuzzLex is only available for the Windows platform.
Q9. Can I add additional words and definitions to the WordNet
Component?
No. It is not currently possible to add new definitions to the WordNet
files.
Q10. I have completed a crossword using PuzzLex's Grid and would like to
print it. Where is the Print command?
Its not possible to print the Grid directly from within PuzzLex. However,
you can copy the Grid to an application such as Word to do the printing.
To copy a Grid to the Windows Clipboard choose 'Copy Grid as Bitmap'
from the 'Edit' menu.
Q11. After reproducing
a grid from a magazine I wish to also include "custom cells" in a different
colour to the black used for the blanks. After solving the Xword the
coloured cells spell out a secret word or phrase that you use for
competition entry. What is the best way to achieve this?
Put the Grid in Edit mode
(F10 Key)
Whilst holding the SHIFT key down click on the cells to which you want to
apply the colour. When all the cells are selected use the 'Custom Cell
Colour' option from the Grid menu to select a colour.
